The following is our practice philosophy regarding the proper care of your companion.
Annual Visit
Exam: This is the most important part of your visit. Information garnered from the physical exam, history and other tests allows us to recognize diseases and other problems early. Early detection is the key to proper treatment and prolonged quality of life.
Fecal parasite exam: Recommended at every routine visit or when vomiting or diarrhea is present. Intestinal parasites are one of the most common diseases that we see. They are easily transmitted from dog to dog and can be transmitted to humans as well. Young children are especially vulnerable, and infection can have serious consequences including blindness and neurologic problems.
Heartworm test: Recommended yearly in dogs, especially if not on year-round protection. Even dogs on year-round preventative have a small risk of developing heartworm disease and testing is still recommended.
Wellness blood test: Recommended yearly for animals that are 8 years of age or older and semi-annually for animals 12 years old or older depending on breed. Blood tests can assist us in early detection of some diseases.
Vaccinations: See vaccination pages
